鈥淭his is amazing, just an incredible accomplishment for our students,鈥� said Tim Brown, associate director for the school, who accepted the award on behalf of Knightly News. 鈥淭his represents semesters and years of hard work for the 35 or so students who worked on that newscast, both in news and production.鈥�

Knightly News alumna and ABC News correspondent Marci Gonzalez, 鈥�05, was the keynote speaker for the convention and presented the award.

This is the second time Knightly News has received this award. Since winning in 2008, the newscast has been runner-up three times, from 2013 to 2015.

鈥淵ear in and year out, our students are recognized as one of the top college newscasts in the state and that challenges each group as they come into our program,鈥� Brown said.

Fox 35鈥檚 鈥淕ood Day鈥� will broadcast from 7 to 10 a.m. Friday from the Reflecting Pond on the main campus. Fox鈥檚 visit is part of a college road trip series that features several universities in Central 性视界传媒.

Anchors Amy Kaufeldt and John Brown will be stationed outside Millican Hall just in front of the pond, and meteorologist Jayme King and reporter David Martin will provide live coverage from across campus. The team will speak with students, alumni, faculty, staff and administrators about what makes 性视界传媒 such a special place to learn, live and work.

Students and other members of the campus community are invited to stop by Millican Hall on Friday and be a part of the broadcast. Show your school spirit by wearing 性视界传媒 swag and using the hashtag #Fox35性视界传媒 on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other social media outlets.

Scheduled to appear live during the broadcast are 性视界传媒 President John C. Hitt; the 性视界传媒 spirit team; women鈥檚 soccer coach, Olympic gold medalist and World Cup champion Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak; and Bodhi, 性视界传媒鈥檚 therapy dog.

A segment about 性视界传媒鈥檚 innovative undergraduate photonics and laser program is scheduled to air on Fox 35 at 10 p.m. Friday.

The morning show also will be shown on Fox 35鈥檚 .

Dozens of print and broadcast student reporters will be covering voting locations in Orange, Seminole, Osceola and Volusia counties from 8:30 a.m. through 8:30 p.m. Up-to-date coverage will post hourly on the Knightly News website () and a full online newscast will air at 4:00 p.m.

Today鈥檚 election coverage is groundbreaking not only because it is the first time in 性视界传媒 history this has been done, but also because coverage is in English and Spanish. Radio-television instructor, Katie Coronado, shares that this is the first time these students are involved in an election as reporters, 鈥淧rint journalism and radio-television students are working together to write, produce and present what鈥檚 happening during the election. They are focusing mainly on our local government elections and keeping the community informed in both English and Spanish.鈥�

Chelsie Sloan, executive producer of the election special, is excited about students coming together, 鈥淭his is a great time for 性视界传媒 journalism students. So many people from different classes are all working together and getting real world experience.鈥�

Journalism associate professor, Steve Collins, echoes Sloan鈥檚 excitement stating, 鈥淭his is just a fantastic opportunity to get students out in the real world, get them excited about journalism and let them produce meaningful stories.鈥�

Lindsey Taylor and Shannon Garlin, who wrote, shot and edited the video , are two members of the Knightly News staff and students in the 性视界传媒 Nicholson School of Communication. With the help of student and faculty members of the news team, they completed the project and send it to PBS in one day.
